County Commissioner Wayne Johnson Resigns

 Governor to Appoint Replacement —

Bernalillo County – District 5 County Commissioner, Wayne Johnson, is resigning his position on the Bernalillo County Commission effective March 1, 2018.

Commissioner Johnson notified Bernalillo County Manager, Julie Morgas Baca and Governor Susanna Martinez of his decision via a letter, dated Jan. 26, 2018.

It has been a great pleasure working with my fellow commissioners and the many talented people who do phenomenal work each and every day,” says County Commissioner Wayne Johnson.  “More importantly, it has been an honor to serve District 5 and the people of Bernalillo County.  While serving on the County Commission, working with county employees, we have made Bernalillo County more professional, accountable, and transparent, and the people we represent are better served because of our actions.”

In his letter of resignation Commissioner Johnson says he is leaving the commission to better focus on the job of state auditor.  Johnson was appointed to the auditor position following the election of then auditor, Tim Keller as Mayor of Albuquerque on Nov. 14, 2017.

Johnson’s commission seat will be filled by appointment by Governor Martinez.  That appointment will serve the remainder of Johnson’s term which expires Dec. 31, 2018.

Commissioner Johnson was elected to the County Commission in 2010.

Anyone interested in running for the District 5 seat will need to file the appropriate paperwork to be included on the June 5 primary ballot.

Bernalillo County Commission District 5 includes the East Mountains and a portion of the Northeast heights.
