Hello Neighbors,

The next City Council meeting is Wednesday, October 4 at 5:00 pm in the Vincent Griego Chambers, basement level of City Hall:  Agenda.

Legislation of Interest

  • Neighborhood Recognition R-17-233 (Benton) will be heard at next Wednesday’s Council meeting.  R-233 establishes that no new recognized or non-recognized neighborhood associations shall be created by the City under the existing Neighborhood Association Recognition Ordinance, unless in compliance with certain interim procedures, during a time in which the ordinance is updated by the City. This will not impact any existing associations as they are currently configured.

Upcoming Events

  • Hurricane Maria Relief/Concert:  I grew up in Puerto Rico and was saddened to see the devastation wreaked by Hurricane Maria.  The challenges of disaster recovery are much greater on this heavily populated island.  I wanted to bring your attention to a local fundraiser for Puerto Rico disaster relief on Sunday, October 8 and I hope to see you there.
  • ARTBeat on the Street Events:  Please support our Central Avenue businesses!
  • Downtown Growers’ Market:  Saturdays 8 am – noon thru November 4binson Park
  • ABQ365 Events:  Year-round events in Albuquerque
  • ABQtodo:  More year-round events in Albuquerque

Projects

  • Project List
  • Rio Grande Boulevard Complete Street Test Project:  The final report of the monitoring study for the test project is complete (click here to read).  As the study concluded that traffic speeds were reduced without significant impact on traffic operations, the consultant will complete plans for a permanent configuration of three lanes.  Some “tweaks” to the existing configuration will be made based on observations and comments from the public, the City’s traffic engineers and the consultant.  We are working to coordinate resurfacing of the street, which was previously postponed, with installation of the permanent striping plan.
  • North 4th Street Alameda Drain Trail Crossing:  Construction is scheduled to begin September 18.
  • Kirtland Dog Park: Construction has begun on this long-awaited project!

Sincerely,
Isaac Benton
