Hello Neighbors,

Legislation of Interest

  • Process for Bosque Projects R-5-171 (Benton) is on the agenda for final action atMonday’s meeting.  At the last Council meeting, a substitute bill was moved to reflect the agreements made between the Bosque Action Team, Parks & Rec, and the City’s Chief Operating Officer regarding a process for future work in the Bosque.  The provisions that defunded work in the Bosque were removed.  Despite this, I will continue to monitor proposals for new work in the Bosque and I encourage you to do the same.
  • Municipal Authority Regarding the Right to Keep And Bear Arms R-15-265 (Gibson) would have encouraged the 2016 New Mexico State Legislature to pass a proposal that authorizes the voters of New Mexico to consider whether or not to repeal the 1986 amendment to the state constitution that restricts municipal authority with respect to laws related to the right to keep and bear arms.  The vote at the Finance & Government Operations committee last week killed the bill.  I voted against the motion to recommend a “Do not pass” after having attempted to send it to the full Council without recommendation.  I think the bill merited a debate by the full Council.

Upcoming Events & Meetings

  • Cultural Services Events
  • Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham’s Health and Wellness Fair: Saturday, November 14, 10 am – 2 pm
  • El Camino Real Metropolitan Redevelopment Area:  The Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency will recommend that the Albuquerque Development Commission remove an item from its Monday, Nov. 16 agenda that would establish the proposed boundary of the El Camino Real MR Area on commercial properties flanking 4th and 2nd Streets in the North Valley. This is in response to comments received from the community following a Nov. 4 public meeting requesting additional opportunities to learn about how the proposed designation would impact the area. Stay tuned – Metropolitan Redevelopment and Council Services staff will work to schedule additional meetings about this project in the near future.
