Deadline Approaching to Apply for Property Value Freeze through Bernalillo County Assessor’s Office

Bernalillo County – Bernalillo County Assessor Tanya R. Giddings reminds all qualified property owners that the deadline to apply for the program to freeze the taxable value on their home is fast approaching.

To qualify for the Value Freeze Program, property owners must have a modified gross income of $32,000 or less a year, and be either: 65 years or older; or disabled. Modified gross income is defined as all income from all sources undiminished by losses. Qualified property owners have until Dec. 31 to apply to be eligible for this year.

“This program is important for all those who are eligible, and that’s why we want everyone who may qualify to be aware of it and how they can apply,” Assessor Tanya R. Giddings says.

To make it easy to apply, the Bernalillo County Assessor’s Office has posted the application online at

Property owners who have qualified and filed proof of income for three consecutive years do not need to re-apply; the Assessor’s Office will apply the exemption automatically. For the 2014 tax year, the Assessor’s Office automatically applied Value Freeze Exemption for 2,759 eligible senior and/or disabled persons.
