Hello Friends,

This is Susan Smith from the South Skyland NA — writing to you in my role with Talking Talons. We want to extend the following special invitation to residents from all areas of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County.

Talking Talons Youth Leadership is facilitating a community-involvement project for the US Forest Service called “More Kids in the Winter Woods”. We want to invite all interested residents of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County to join us.

The project’s goal is to increase winter recreational and educational activities in the Sandias for kids and people of all ages. We are holding a Community Meeting Tuesday, September 23 in Albuquerque, to gather public input and recruit people to join the collaboration (from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at Manzano Mesa Multigenerational Center — flyer attached).

We are looking at four focus areas:

Access — improving access up Hwy 536 and at parking lots when it snows
Capulin — opening Capulin Snow Play Area
Trails — improving winter trail options for cross-country skiers, snowshoers and hikers
Environmental Education — developing more EE activities in the Sandias in winter

Please contact me if you have any questions or suggestions. Thanks!

Susan Smith
