Albuquerque, NM – The New Mexico Office of African American Affairs (OAAA) is hosting and celebrating its first annual Economic Empowerment Day at the 2014 NM Black Expo. The event is being held Friday, August 29, 2014 at the Hyatt Hotel in downtown Albuquerque. The day will focus on three primary areas: a career fair, a corporate luncheon, and a series of concurrent workshops that are designed to empower the business communities throughout New Mexico.

According to Michael McNair, Executive Director of the New Mexico Black Chamber of Commerce, “Many award-winning African American owned businesses will be present to show their outstanding products and services. Anyone interested in changing careers, finding employment, or showcasing their products and services should make a special effort to come out. This is truly a “must attend” event.”

The free career fair, sponsored by the New Mexico Workforce Connection, being held during the morning will be open to the public. Attendees are being asked to come prepared to interview. A few of the companies hiring during the career fair will include T-Mobile, US Forest Services, Albuquerque Police Department, Bernalillo County Sheriff Department, and Walgreens.

During the corporate luncheon, Eddie Corley, Jr. of Corley’s Albuquerque Lincoln Volvo will be the keynote speaker. Internationally known entrepreneurial prodigy Dr. Farrah Gray, who has been a millionaire since age fourteen, will close out the day with a presentation on Economic Empowerment.
