Bernalillo County has decided to implement the Little Free Libraries concept around the county.

As a result, the county partnered with the UNM School of Architecture and Planning to design a

prototype little library. The design winner will be announced at this event.

A Little Free Library is a “take a book, return a book” gathering place where neighbors share

their favorite literature and stories. In its most basic form, a Little Free Library is a box full of

books where anyone may stop by and pick up a book (or two) and bring back another book to

share.

The mission of the Little Free Libraries program is to promote literacy and the love of reading

by building free book exchanges worldwide and to build a sense of community as skills,

creativity and wisdom are shared across generations.
