mariachi
Lew Wallace Elementary School is building a multi-cultural music program. Their first after-school offering is Mariachi, and students can learn to play guitar, violin, trumpet, or guitarron, and will collaborate with other mariachi groups from East San Jose and Reginald Chavez in a combined performance in the Festival de Bellas Artes at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in February. The wonderful problem is that they have more students thaninstruments, and are are fund-raising to try to purchase more guitars and violins. Lew Wallace is currently looking for donations of instruments or money. They areselling Albuquerque “The City” Coupon Books. For $20, you receive coupons for free pizza, discounts on services, restaurants, and products in Albuquerque. They have 300 books to sell, and get to keep $10 from every one sold. Their goal is $3000 for mariachi instruments, plus materials, costumes, supplies, and master teachers for additional multi-cultural arts offerings! Contact Lew Wallace for coupon books or donations at 848-9409 or strangio@aps.edu.
