Property Owner Notices of Value Mailed May 1st by Assessor

The 2013 Notices of Value for Bernalillo County property owners were mailed on May 1.

County Assessor Tanya Giddings urges homeowners and property owners to carefully review their 2013 Notices of Value which assign a value to a home/property that determines the amount of property taxes owed.

Giddings also encourages property owners to take advantage of all ex-emptions which can lower their overall property tax bill. Examples include head of household and veterans ex-emptions.

Senior citizens, 65 years and older, and disabled individuals may qualify for the County Assessor’s Value Freeze Program which locks in assessed values at current rates. To qualify, applicants must show their income was $32,000 or less in 2012.

The period to protest one’s Notice of Value will run from May 1, through May 30, at 5 p.m. Protest forms are available online at and can also be picked up at 501 Tijeras Ave. N.W. Call 505.222.3700 for more information.

Also, in an effort to better serve county residents, the Bernalillo County Assessor’s office will be in four different neighborhoods during the month of May! Assessor staff will be visiting various community centers throughout the county and will be available for any questions regarding property assessments, exemptions, and the protest process. The Assessor’s Office will be available at the following locations on May 14, May 16, May 21 and May 23 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The four locations are:

Cultural Assets Inventory & Mapping Survey

Bernalillo County is partnering with Creative Albuquerque to conduct a cultural assets inventory and mapping project for its future countywide cultural planning efforts. This data will be used as a planning tool and inspiration for further community planning and economic development. The ongoing cultural assets project seeks to gather public input about what culture we value and why it’s worth preserving – from traditions to movies and music, festivals and historic properties. The project will document the many cultural assets located through-out Bernalillo County. Once the project is complete, the information will be used to help create a cultural services plan managed by Bernalillo County’s Office of Cultural Services that would promote and highlight these cultural as-sets through tourism, cultural events and festivals. To take the survey visit or contact Bernalillo County Cultural Services at 468-1279 to receive a hard copy of the survey. Deadline to participate in survey is May 31, 2013.

Tour del Bosque – Come Experience Bernalillo County

Tour del Bosque is an adventure-filled event that brings the whole family outdoors. Tour del Bosque will span two days over the course of Mother’s Day weekend, May 11 and 12. There will be mountain bike racing, bosque trail bike riding and walking.

This is the inaugural year for this countywide event. Activities are scheduled across the county to reacquaint residents with the wonderful recreational facilities and open spaces that exist within Bernalillo County.

On Saturday, May 11, the action gets started on the backside of the mountain with the Oak Flats Mountain Bike Race in Tijeras at 8:00 a.m. The bike trails range from 1.6 miles for children to 18 and 24 miles for adults. There are non-competitive and competitive events. Go to, to register.

In the North Valley, also taking place on Saturday, May 11 at 8:00 a.m., will be a bike clinic at the North Valley Bike Park (Raymond G. Sanchez CC). A team of professional BMX riders will be on-site demonstrating their skills and offering instruction to all riders on trail and riding technique.

Simultaneously, in the South Valley, a bike rodeo and bike swap will be taking place at the new Gateway Park located on the corner of Bridge Boulevard and Isleta Boulevard. There, younger participants will learn proper bike safety techniques and improve their bike riding skills. The bike swap is where bike enthusiasts will be able to find or sell things bike related.

All day on Sunday, May 12, and all along the Bosque Trail, residents can bike, walk or run. During the Tour del Bosque, water supplies, music and activities for all participants will be available at rest areas every five miles along the route. The race start time is 8:00 a.m.

Because festivities are taking place on Mother’s Day, every mom will be treated extra special during this event.

All residents are encouraged to come out and spend a day or both days in the great outdoors here in Bernalillo County — on the trails of the Tour del Bosque.
