Call for ART — “Upside Down Downside Up “

From Edwards’ Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, pp. 58/9

“Upside Down, Downside Up” Exhibit
Up Through March 29

This exhibit shows both the original artwork and the copy which was produced inverted at all times during the process. Working in this way disorients the perception of the person copying the work and forces the artist to draw what they actually see. From this altered perspective lines and relationships are seen differently and certain values pop out or recede as the copying artist forms a new relationship with the copied work using this technique.

The Awakening Mandala Workshop

“Milk & Honey, True Love” by Deborah Gavel

Sat., May 11, 2013
2:30-5:30 pm
Cost: $35
with Deborah Gavel

In this three hour experience, you will be guided to create a mandala as an expression of yourself. The term, mandala, is Hindu in origin and loosely translates to mean circle or wheel. We will begin by looking at some examples of mandalas and then identifying specific symbols for you to use within your mandala. Working with water-based paints and collage, this will be a creative opportunity to express and gather self-awareness. You will get to take home a finished piece suitable for framing. Our goals will be to nurture your creative nature through conversation, observation, the act of making and the power of community.
Space is limited, so call 247-1172 now!
Registration and Pre-payment required.
Deborah Gavel, MFA is an artist, educator, art activist and healer in Albuquerque. She has been working with mandalas for over twenty years as a symbol of wholeness in her paintings, collages and community performances. She is interested in the expression of nature and the human spirit through the arts.

Make Your Own Red Book Workshop

Sun., May 19th, 2013
2-5 pm
Cost: $35
with Nina Ross, PhD

Do you have a personal mystery? A question you want to pose, and find answers for? Do you want to find a way to your personal truths? This class will show you how to make discoveries beyond what you may consciously already know, using these inspirations for personal art making. “Often the hands will solve a mystery that the intellect has struggled with in vain.” Carl Jung had a secret book of his own understandings only recently shared with the public: The Red Book; and he felt that anyone could make their own. In this class, participants will have the opportunity to begin to create a visual journal based on their personal imagery, intuition, and active imagination. Through guided meditation and discussion participants will tap into their own rich inner worlds. Materials included. Bring any special tools you want to use.
Space is limited, so call 247-1172 now!
Registration and Pre-payment required.
Nina Ross has a PhD in the Psychology of Art from Union Institute. Nina has studied with James Hillman and others in the field of Archetypal Psychology. She is a licensed and registered Art Therapist in New Mexico with over 25 years experience working with people through art.
