Popular Tradition Continues with Live Entertainment, Shopping, Dining

Albuquerque, NM—The Annual Old Town Holiday Stroll, one of Albuquerque’s most popular holiday traditions, returns to Old Town on Friday, December 7th from 4 – 9:30 p.m.

Thousands of residents will enjoy the full schedule of live entertainment, strolling and shopping in Old Town’s unique shops and galleries, dining in Old Town’s restaurants, and more as they celebrate the spirit of the holidays. Those who have attended in previous years know the event offers very a special holiday experience and adventure. Entertainment includes bands, singers, choirs from area schools and churches, dancers and even a jump rope club performing intricate routines.

It’s the best Christmas party in Albuquerque! Old Town’s streets will close at 2 p.m. to accommodate the large crowds. Evening festivities begin with the flag ceremony and the national anthem at 5:30 p.m., followed by the lighting of the giant Christmas tree at Plaza Don Luis. Santa Claus will make his appearance to listen to the children’s wishes. All of Old Town will be glowing with luminarias to help guide visitors to many the places to shop.

Visitors can shop and save while helping to raise money for a local charity. Visit a special booth to purchase this year’s collectable button and receive discounts, free gifts or special offers from participating merchants. Proceeds from the button sales go directly to The American Heart Association, whose volunteers coordinate the button program and provide hundreds of work hours to staff and operate this year’s event. The mission of the American Heart Association is to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

5:40 p.m. Manzano Day School and the National Anthem with Audience Participation

5:55 p.m. Blessing of the Christmas Tree

6:00 p.m. Greetings from Dignitaries

6:05 p.m. Welcome – Henry and Karen Aceves, owners of Plaza Don Luis

6:10 p.m. Steve Stucker lighting of Albuquerque’s giant Christmas tree

6:15 p.m. Santa Parade around the Plaza

The City’s Department of Cultural Services staff for Historic Old Town is working with the event’s sponsors, the Old Town Merchants Association, to fill the main square and all plazas with performers throughout the entire afternoon and evening and to provide major equipment and logistics support.

Historic Old Town, a program that presents many events in Old Town and works year-round to support the continued success of Albuquerque’s historic treasure, is part of the Cultural Service Department, City of Albuquerque, Richard J.
