This month’s residence is 931 11th Street NW. Tom and Melanie Lewis moved from Kansas City, Missouri to Albuquerque about fifteen years ago because of a job transfer. Initially they rented an apartment near Academy and Wyoming for six months, then moved to an apartment in the Raynolds neighborhood of downtown. The tree-lined streets and urban lifestyle reminded them of neighbor- hoods in Kansas City. Because they loved the walkability and easy access to the many near-by cultural attractions including the Zoo, the Natural History Museum, and Old Town, they decided to buy a house to begin raising their family.

Two of their three children were born in the home. Their oldest daughter, Josie and daughter Jemima attend Lew Wallace Elementary school on 6th Street. The Lewis family has been very impressed with the staff there, and found it to be a warm and inviting school.

The Lewis family have enjoyed and appreciated their relationships with their neighbors over the years, and are excited about the continued improvements to the Downtown area.

They have systematically upgraded their home over the past fourteen years with most recently completing the front yard landscape, and re-stuccoing the exterior.

Your neighbors appreciate the pride you have shown with the efforts on your home.

This month’s featured business is new to the neighborhood. Josh Arnold and Heather Wess opened “ROUTES Rentals & Tours” in May, which is located at 1102 Mountain Road NW, Suite 101. Josh is an Intern and project manager working on obtaining his architect’s license, and also wanted to start another business. Heather has her own marketing and design firm, with experience in tourism. They both love riding bikes, and wanted a venue to showcase our city. They looked at different sites in Old-town, Downtown, and near the Balloon FIesta Park from February through April, and always came back to this building as the best choice to launch their business.

“ROUTES Rentals & Tours” rents bicycles (Cruisers, Mountain Bikes, Kid’s Bikes and Tandems), which have yellow tires – their branding – by the hour, half day, or for a full day. Pick up and delivery is available in the greater Albuquerque area. A licensed bike mechanic will be on hand to maintain the store’s bikes, and do repairs and tune-ups for the general public. They have 3+ hour Scenic Tours that go through Old-town, along the Bosque, Tingley Park, the Zoo and back, plus Theme Tours tailored more for locals.
When there is snow on the Sandias, the store will rent snow shoes and have tours as well.
The neighborhood welcomes “ROUTES Rentals and Tours”, and wishes this business great success.
