The monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of the Downtown Neighborhood Association took place at Harwood Arts Center, 1114 7th St. NW, Wednesday, Sept 2, 2009 at 7:00 PM pursuant to prior approval.Board members in attendance: Lindi Anderson, Robert Bello, Sue Byrch, Gabe Campos, Jim Clark, Jennifer DeGarmo, Dick Deichsel, David Keleher, David McCain, Jacque Wright, and Bob Yuhas,. Other neighbors present: Susan Deichsel, Jacqueline Guilvault, Val Hollingsworth, Dave Littlejohn, and Anna Muller.

Chair Jennifer DeGarmo, called the meeting to order.  A quorum was present, the meeting duly convened, and ready to proceed with business.  After introductions, the Board approved the agenda and minutes from the August Board of Directors Meeting as presented.

Treasurer’s Report

Jim Clark submitted the treasurer’s report for August 2009.  The account balance as of August 31st was $10,256.30. There were deposits for membership dues of $90.00 and one $2000 check to Harwood Art Center for repair fund donation.

Go Arts Festival

Val Hollingsworth asked for volunteers for the Go Arts Festival for the weekend of Sept. 25th 11am-9pm, 26th 11am-8pm & 27th 11am-5pm.  Setting up begins @8:00 AM each day, and she thought 2 hrs. would help, though most volunteers usually spend the day.  For more information, go on the Action Team website  She also encouraged all to attend the Harvest Festival on Sept. 19th at Robinson Park.

Elect DNA Chair

Jennifer DeGarmo announced she was resigning her temporary position as DNA Chair, and asked for volunteers.  Jim Clark volunteered, David Keleher gave a motion, Jacque Wright a 2nd, and the Board voted unanimously for Jim to be the new temporary chair.


Zoning Report

1. Jim Clark’s home improvement application received final approval.  He’s  beginning work immediately.

2. Robert Bello reported that  the 610 Luna variance appeal was denied by the  LUCC, and the carport has been removed.

3. The proposal for Certificate of Appropriateness for the rear remodel of 903  Forester NW was continued until Oct.14th.

4. A status of established building review hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept  15th @9:00am for the expansion of the Botanica La Salud building at 1701&1/2 Central Ave.

5. There is a hearing for the application to transfer the Brickyard Pizza liquor  license location to 420 Central Ave. SW.  The notice was vague as to the type of  liquor license in the application.

6. Architect, John Anderson is asking DNA OK for application to remove an  existing building at 908 Roma NW, and build a new residence.  Robert Bello set

up a meeting for DNA members to see Mr. Anderson’s proposed plans on Friday,  Sept. 4th @ 10:00am.

7. Architect, Conrad Skinner wants to move forward with the condo  development on the corner of 12th and Lomas.  Jim Clark will advise Mr. Skinner

to reconsider the exterior design, to accommodate the project’s location in the

4th Ward overlay.

Sector Plan Update

Jim Clark reported that last month’s committee meeting was attended by Jim  Strozier and Jackie Fishman from Consensus Planning and Petra Morris from  city planning.  Committee members gave a list of overall goals and concerns,

and emphasized the process should be an update, not a rewrite.  The next

meeting is at the Hotel Blue, scheduled for Sept. 9th @ 6:30pm.

New DNA Logo

Jacque Wright said the website has received 40 votes.  Only one vote can be

made from one e-mail address.

DNA Potlucks

This month’s potluck will be at Dick & Susan Deichsel’s  – 508 14th St NW on

Sept. 12th , beginning @ 6:00pm.  Next month’s will be on Sunday, Oct. 18th,  beginning at noon in Robinson Park.

Bulb Distribution

Lindi Anderson will handle and Jacque Wright offered to help buy and distribute.  The Board approved contributing $250.00 to buy the Bulbs for neighborhood  beautification.


There was discussion about getting a dollar accounting from the city on money

that was spent to buy trees so far, and to ascertain if more is available.  David

Keleher offered to contact Representative Rick Miera, to see about getting

more trees to fill in empty areas in Mary Fox Park, Soldiers Park, Mountain Rd.,  etc.

Board Member resignation

Ivan Alley advised he wished to resign from the DNA Board as he is unable to

attend meetings because of his work schedule.


With no remaining business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned @8:40pm.
