The Bernalillo County Economic Development Team is gearing up for a small business summit to be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at the South Valley Multipurpose Center. This summit is different from those in the past because not only are we bringing back the Increment of 1 Initiative partners, but for the first time professionals in a number of different fields that can help your business take the next step. This Year’s Theme: “Healthy Counties, Healthy Families”
Bernalillo County – April is National County Government Month — an opportunity for Bernalillo County to highlight the programs and services it provides to residents who live in the state’s largest county.
This year’s theme is “Healthy Counties, Healthy Families.” Each week in April, the county will showcase programs and services that demonstrate the county’s commitment to addressing the community’s health-related needs.
There will be activities and public events that raise awareness about health in the following areas: Financial and occupational health, physical and intellectual health, behavioral health and community health.

“Feria De Salud” (Free Healthcare Day) / April 14 /10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m./National Hispanic Cultural Center/1701 4th St. SW: Bernalillo County will have a booth at the health fair, providing information about county health programs and services.
Shadow a Commissioner/ April 10/One Civic Plaza NW: High School students will shadow commissioners to learn more about county government, including attending the County Commission meeting.
In addition to the public events, county employees and members of the community will participate in several activities that spotlight county open space programs, substance abuse treatment facilities, Earth Day activities and more. Bernalillo County, Cottonwood Gulch Foundation Forge New Partnership at Bachechi Open Space

Open House this Saturday from 3-5 p.m.
Bernalillo County – Bernalillo County and the Cottonwood Gulch Foundation today announced a new partnership to offer services and environmental education at the county’s Bachechi Open Space in the North Valley.
The Cottonwood Gulch Foundation, a wilderness education organization, has assigned a full-time staff member to serve as caretaker of the 27-acre open space, which includes a 2,000 square-foot education building.

There is free parking available to all that park in the structure under Civic Plaza- there are entries on Tijeras and Marquette, depending on the direction you are coming from. Just take the ticket from the entry gate with you into the hearing and get a stamp from the folks sitting at the front. Sometimes there is someone stationed at the Council Chambers door giving out the stamp. The key is don’t forget to bring your parking ticket in with you!

Reminder: Wednesday March 28th, 2012 5pm, the Downtown Neighborhood Area Sector Development Plan (DNA SDP) will be heard by the full City Council for the first time. The hearing will be held in City Council Chambers, basement of City Hall. This is a special hearing, so at this point the DNA SDP is the first and only item on the agenda.

MASTER NATURALIST PROGRAM

The Master Naturalist Program provides an excellent opportunity to participate in conserving, preserving and restoring the local environment. This is a three-year pilot program that was launched in 2010.
Through the Master Naturalist Program, a select group of dedicated participants will enjoy a wide range of FREE classes and hands-on experiences including 55 hours of in-class training and field studies over a two month period. Upon completion of the classes and field studies, participants will carry out a 40 hour service project on Open Space properties.
This program is ideal for individuals who have a love for the outdoors, curiosity of the natural environment, and desire to work with others and help support conservation measures that improve land health.

Residents can recycle their green waste for FREE !

Description
City of Albuquerque Solid Waste Residential Customers can take advantage of free green waste pickup. Green waste will be collected on your regular trash collection day during the following weeks:
• April 30 – May 4
• May 7 – 11
Instructions
Solid Waste Residential customers must place green waste — such as leaves, grass, and brush — in trash bags.
• Bags must not weigh more than 40 pounds each.
• Branches must be cut to four-foot lengths and bundled securely.
• Items for green recycling must be placed at the curb for collection by 7 a.m. on the regular trash pickup day.
• Items should be placed 5 feet away from automated trash containers.
Prohibited Items
Collection crews won’t pick up the following items:
• Dirt
• Construction debris
• Gravel
• Construction material
• Tree stumps
