The Department of Senior Affairs and the Albuquerque Police Department are pleased to announce the launching of Silver Alert on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 9:00 am – 2:00 pm at the Barelas Senior Center.
Albuquerque Police and Senior Affairs departments have created a new program to help quickly find Alzheimer’s or dementia patients who go missing. The program, “Silver Alert,” will assist police, the media and the public in finding missing loved ones who may not be aware of their surroundings.
The caregiver must bring the senior who has already been diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer’s to Barelas Senior Center on Tuesday, February 14, 2012. Our care coordination staff will interview the caregiver/senior to collect information that will be stored on a memory stick for the caregiver to keep. We have set up small quiet areas in the center for the caregiver/senior in hopes of eliminating the anxiety the senior may experience in large crowds.
