Fruit Tree Care: Pruning, Selection, and Planting

Backyard Farming Series at the Gutierrez-Hubbell House,

February 11th 9:00am-12:30pm

This workshop is back by popular demand!

This is the time of year to prune back those dead branches and shape your fruit trees. As tree doctor Al Shigo stated, “Pruning is one of the best things you can do for a tree and one of the worst things you can do to a tree.” Learn correct techniques for pruning, what fruit trees thrive best in your area, when to plant, and proper planting guidelines. Joran Viers with the County Extension Office and Bryan Suhr with UNM will present general methods for fruit tree pruning and varietal selection.

Winter Natural Journaling

February 26th 10:00am-1:00pm

This is one of a four-part journaling series based on the seasons led by Margy O’Brien!

A powerful way to become a better observer of nature and in tune with seasonal changes is through nature journaling. Many great naturalists like Rachel Carson, Aldo Leopold and John Muir fine-tuned their skills through journaling. This four-part series will give you the tools and skills needed to delve deeper into the wondrous world of nature. You do not need any prior experience with drawing or journaling to participate. Space is limited to 20, so sign up today.
